Avoyelles Parish Fatal Crash
Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from Marksville, LA.
Troopers responded to the crash around 8:45 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 1 near Fifth Ward. The crash involved a 1999 GMC pickup, driven by Stanley P. Lacombe (W/M 50 yrs) of Marksville, LA and a 1978 White garbage truck, driven by Michael W. Dauzat Jr. (W/M 35 yrs) of Marksville, LA. The garbage truck was south bound on LA Hwy 1, attempting to turn left into a private driveway, when the south bound GMC collided with the rear portion of it.
Lacombe was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.
Dauzat Jr. was not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending.
Troop E Troopers have investigated 59 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 70 fatalities. Thirty-seven of the 49 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. It is unknown if the deceased was wearing a seatbelt in one crash. Five crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle.
